8 Useful Tips for Quilling Beginners

In fact, quilling is a traditional papercraft which has been popular since the 15th century. In the last couple of years, quilling, also known as paper filigree has experienced a resurgence in popularity. It has been used for card making, paper flower making, jewelry, wall decor, scrapbooking and monograms etc. If you can make wonderful shapes and patterns using simple quilling paper strips and quilling tools, it will be amazing. This article will summarize some tips for quilling beginners to make your project easy.

1. Using Pre-cut Paper Strips for Your First Project

Quilling Paper Strips
Use pre-cut quilling papers for your first projects. Your initial attempts will have better results if you use precise machine-cut papers. Once you are comfortable with basic quilling techniques, you can cut your papers and explore your creativity by experimenting with different methods.

2. Start With Small Project

Start with smaller sized projects first. You can quickly become overwhelmed when trying to tackle a craft project that is too complicated or too large. Small projects can promote feelings of success and accomplishment and can be the building blocks the help you master your skills one step at a time. Once you have mastered the basics, you can attempt complicated projects with ease.

3. Use the Right Tools

Quilling Slotted Tools Set

It's important to choose the right tools. You don't need to buy any special tools to create paper filigree art–a toothpick or bamboo skewer will roll paper strips very well. If you are bitten by the quilling bug and wish to continue, you should purchase a slotted quilling tool and a needle tool.

You can place the strip of paper into the upper slot of the slotted tool, giving you more control when rolling the paper strips. A needle device is a long tapered needle with a long wooden...MORE

4. Have a Light Touch When Using Glue

When gluing your rolled paper shapes, always remember to use glue sparingly. Too much glue can quickly ruin your project, which you may have worked on for hours. The hassle of starting a project over can be avoided with a little bit of caution. You can always add a bit more adhesive if necessary, but cannot remove excess glue.

5. Paper Quilling Patterns

Some beginners find using a premade quilling pattern quite helpful when first starting out. There are quilling patterns available for purchase or free download on the internet. These printable patterns can guide beginners helping them build their skills. All you have to do is place the printed pattern under a sheet of waxed paper and follow the suggestions. You will quickly have a quilling "masterpiece" that you will be proud to give as a gift or display in your home.

6. Master the Basic Quilling Shapes

Learn the basic shapes before working on a quilling project. It can be quite helpful to make a master sheet of basic shapes. Glue different shapes to a piece of cardboard to use as a reference when working on various projects.

7. Circle Sizing Board

A circle sizing board is a tool you don't want to ever be without. It is a sheet of plastic that has predrilled holes of various shapes and sizes. Use the holes to help you roll the paper shapes and you will always have consistency in your shapes. This board is a tool you will want to use again and again

8. Acetate Sheet

Build your quilling piece on a sheet of acetate. It is strong enough to give your glued quilled shapes stability. After the glue has dried, you can pull your quilled piece up off the sheet without damage. Just wash the leftover glue from the acetate sheet and reuse for your next project.

Closing Thoughts

These are just a few tips to help you get started on your quilling journey. Remember that it will take awhile to master the craft, so be patient with yourself and practice. You will find that if you keep at it, you will amaze yourself with your progress. You will soon be making pieces of quilling art that are beautiful and will be treasured by you and everyone you make your projects for.

9 Steps to Remove the Door Panel from Your Car

One day, when you find the window of your car can not roll up or roll down, or the door handle cannot open the door, it's the time you consider to take your inside door panel off.  But how to remove it correctly, the following steps will help to answer the question:

The 9 Steps to take your inside door panel off:

1. Open the door.

2. If the lock sticks out of the top of the inner panel, remove it, usually by unscrewing it.

3. Locate the inside door lever that opens the door. Pull on it so that you can see if there is a screw underneath the lever. Remove the screw and remove the hard plastic casing around the door lever.

4. Look underneath the armrest. You will find screws that hold the armrest to the door. (Sometimes these screws are under plastic covers that have to be popped out with a flat screwdriver.) Remove the screws. Remove the armrest. If your windows are electric, remove the wires attached to the armrest by squeezing the plastic sides of the plug-ins.

5. Remove the window crank (if your windows are not electric). Sometimes there is a screw in the center of the crank underneath a decorative cover (old VW Beetle). Pry off the cover and unscrew. Sometimes there is a circlip around the base of the crank. Pry the circlip away from the window crank with a flat screwdriver.

6. Use a wide flat putty knife to pry the bottom of the panel away from the metal part of the door. The panel is held to the metal part of the door by means of several plastic grommets, attached to the back of the cardboard panel that fit into holes. Gently pop the grommets out of their holes, trying not to rip them out of the cardboard panel.

7. Check to see if there are any screws up near the rear-view mirror or on each side of the windowsill (Audi). Remove screws if there are any.

8. Lift the sill up out of its slot by the window and pull the panel away from the door.

9. Carefully pull the plastic away from the door so you can see what needs to repair.

Some Tips Might Help During the Operation:

1. Stick the plastic back on. It's tempting just to hang it back in there.

2. Some cars use a Phillips screwdriver, others use Allen wrenches, and some use a 12 point screwdriver.

3. Each car manufacturer is slightly different so you may have to figure some things out for yourself.

4. Perhaps an internet search will show pictures.

5. Window parts are often available in online store.

You should Know it before buying car parts:

When ordering parts be sure you only order the parts for the exact door you are working on: The driver's side is considered the left side of the car. The passenger side is the right side. (Unless you're in a country where the driver's on the right)

How to Install a New Valve Stem

Place the insertion tube over the valve stem hole. Valve stem replacement toolkits come with an insertion tube that should be placed over the valve stem hole with the larger opening facing up. Make sure the tube is correctly aligned with the hole; if it is even slightly misaligned it will stop you from inserting the new valve stem.
You can purchase valve stem replacement toolkits at your local auto parts store.
The insertion tube will guide the new valve stem as you press it into place.

Lubricate the new valve stem. Take the new valve stem and cover it in an automotive lubricant designed to create a seal once the valve stem is in place. The lubricant will make it easier to insert the valve stem through the valve stem hole.
You can purchase tire sealant lubricant at your local auto parts store.
You may be able to insert the valve stem without lubricant, but the seal will be stronger if you use it.

Press the valve stem into the tire with one quick motion. Insert the valve stem top first into the insertion tool that resembles a screwdriver, then slide the stem and tool into the insertion tube. With one swift motion, press the valve stem down through the tube and hole in the rim, then pull back up to pull the top of the stem through the wheel.
You will need to thread the valve stem onto the insertion tool so you can pull it back up once inserted.
You may need to apply a good deal of pressure to get the stem through the hole.

Pull up on the insertion tool with a strong jerk. Just as you swiftly pressed the stem through the hole, now pull backward on the handle in one swift motion to pull the majority of the valve stem back through it. The bottom ring of the valve stem will prevent it from passing all the way back through, properly seating the valve stem.
If you accidentally pull the stem all the way back through, repeat the process to reinsert it.
You can now refill the tire and place it back on the vehicle.

How to Remove a Valve Stem with the Tire Still Mounted

Jack up the vehicle. You will need to remove the wheel from the vehicle it’s on if it isn’t already. Slide a jack beneath the closest designated jack point to the wheel in question and raise and lower or rotate the handle in order to lift it up off the ground.
Use a tire iron or socket wrench to break the lug nuts loose on the wheel prior to jacking up the vehicle.

Place a jack stand beneath the vehicle to support it while you work on the wheel.

Remove the lug nuts on the wheel. Use the same tire iron or wrench to unscrew the lug nuts on the wheel the rest of the way by turning them counter-clockwise. Once you have removed all of the lug nuts, set them aside someplace safe for when you reinstall the wheel.
If you misplace a lug nut, you can purchase replacements at your local auto parts store.

Pull the wheel off and lay it down face up. With the lug nuts removed, the wheel may come off of the lug studs easily, but in some instances, it may be stuck on due to oxidization or rust. If the wheel won’t come off, hit the rubber sidewall of the tire with a rubber mallet all the way around the wheel to break it loose.
Lay the wheel down on the ground face up so the valve stem is toward the sky.
Do not strike the wheel itself as you may damage it.

Release the air in the tire with a valve change tool. Press the rounded portion of the valve change tool into the valve in the center of the valve stem. When you apply pressure to the center valve, the air inside the tire will begin to leak out. There is quite a bit of pressure in the tire, so prepare yourself for a large burst of air.
You may want to wear gloves to prevent the air escaping from being too cold on your hands.
You can also use a screwdriver or similar tool to release the air.

Press the valve down to the side and insert the tool. With all the air released from the tire, use your thumb to press the valve to the side so it is flat against the wheel. Take the valve change tool and press the hook down into the base of the valve stem so it goes into the wheel.
You may need to apply a good amount of pressure to get the tool past the valve stem.
Be careful not to scratch the finish of the wheel with the valve change tool.

Turn the valve change tool and pull the valve out. With the valve change tool inserted, rotate it in either direction a quarter turn, then pull it straight back up out of the wheel. The hook on the tool will catch the bottom of the valve stem and pull it out with the tool.

Try to pull straight outward from the wheel to avoid chipping the finish.

How to Install a Valve Stem on a Tireless Rim

1. Insert the valve stem through its hole in the wheel. Look at the wheel before getting started and identify the hole through it that the valve stem is supposed to go through. Press the valve stem into the hole from inside where the tire will mount, so the nozzle is sticking out of the inside of the wheel.

2. Hold the valve stem in place with your finger until you can secure it to the valve stem tool.
There is only one hole through the rim so it should be easy to find.

3. Screw the valve stem tool onto the valve stem. Place the valve stem tool over the threaded portion of the valve stem and rotate it clockwise to tighten the two together. The threads on the stem should be the same as the threads on the tool, but be careful not to cross thread the tool onto the stem.
If the tool is not threading on properly, unscrew it and attempt to screw it on again.
Hold the valve stem from the other side with your finger so it doesn’t rotate with the tool.

4. Use the handle to pull on the valve stem. Once the valve stem is secured to the valve stem tool, place the handle up against the lip of the rim. Press down on the end of the handle like a lever, so it pulls up on the valve stem and pulls it through the rim.

5. You may want to place a rag beneath the handle of the tool on the lip of the wheel to protect its finish.
You may need to apply a good deal of pressure in order to wedge the valve stem in the hole properly.

6. Pull until the top ring comes through the wheel. The diameter of the valve stem increases the closer you get to its base and there are two rings in the valve stem at its widest portion. Continue to apply pressure to the valve stem tool until you’ve pulled the first ring through the hole in the wheel.
The bottom ring should be seated firmly against the inside of the wheel.
The top ring should be on the outside of the wheel, holding it securely in place.

7. Unscrew the valve stem tool. Once the valve stem is properly seated in the wheel, press on the bottom of it as you rotate the valve stem tool counterclockwise to unscrew it from the stem. Once done, press on the valve stem and move it around with your fingers. It should not come loose from the wheel.

Note: Don’t apply too much pressure when testing the valve stem or you may push it back through the hole.

The introduction of different material of the tire valve

For a car, tire, as the only parts which contact with the ground, is very important for car safety.

And for a tire, in addition to the crown, belt, curtain layer, airtight layer of several parts to build a solid internal structure, do you have thought that the humble valve also plays a pivotal role in safe driving. If you know little about the valve, do not worry, today we will talk something about the little valves.

A brief introduction of the valve:

Valve is used to charge and discharge the tire gas and maintain the tire pressure. Now the tires used in cars are tires without internal tires. In the structure, the valve and the tire are separated from each other, and the valve is installed in the rim to play its role.

The structure of the valve:

Although, valve is small, but it also can be divided into the valve body (base), gaskets, gaskets, tightening nuts, valve core, valve cap, and each part also have its own role.

1. The valve body (base) is the only way for the gas to enter the tire, and protect the valve core at the same time.

2. Tighten nut, from the name to know, its role is to make the valve and the wheel fixed more secure.

3. The tow different materials of liners are to tighten the tightening nut. The rubber gasket is to prevent leakage on the inside of the wheel seal.

4. Often-lost valve cap can avoid harassment from the outside, and also as the secondary seal for the valve.

5. The valve core not only can ensure the smooth injection of gas into the tire but also has the function to prevent gas leakage.

Different materials of the valve

After the introduction of the valve, the following will enter the focus of today's content, we will introduce you to the characteristics of different materials valve. Yes, with different metal materials used in all aspects of automotive parts, the valve is no longer a single rubber material, metal material has been widely used in the valve, and in the current market, rubber, steel, aluminum Alloy three kinds of material the most common valve.

Three kinds of material valve

1. Rubber valve

As the most common material of the valve, the lower the cost of the rubber valve is widely assembled in the original wheel rim, and the future replacement of the cost is very low, the price is the lowest in three kinds of material.

Rubber valve introduction
However, due to the inevitable aging of the rubber material, the valve will gradually crack, deformation, loss of flexibility. And when the vehicle driving, the rubber valve will swing back and forth with the centrifugal force deformation, which will further promote the aging of rubber. In general, the rubber valve life of 3 to 4 years, and tire life is almost the same, it is recommended to replace the tire when the rubber valve replacement.

Three kinds of material of the valve in their own weight also has a significant difference, their weight will be on the vehicle under the quality and dynamic balance have a certain impact (less spring quality, the vehicle's dynamic response and control performance better) So we weigh the weight of the three kinds of materials. (Weighing the total weight of 4 valves)

After weighing, the total weight of the four rubber valves is about 70g, the weight is located in the middle of the three kinds of the material valve.

2. Steel valve

In order to avoid the aging of the rubber valve, the market gradually appeared in the metal material of the valve, and steel valve is one of them. As the material has changed, the price of steel doors than the rubber valve to be much higher, a set of prices in 150 yuan, a single price is also about 50 yuan.

Steel gas valve life is two to three times the rubber valve, which is mainly due to its metal material is not easy to be oxidized, while the metal valve also has a more excellent air tightness.

But the weight of the steel valve is the weight of the three kinds of material valve, the total weight of four steel doors reached 150g. Taking into account the tires of the dynamic balance, the installation of steel valves after the need to assemble more weight on the rim, which will increase the quality of the reed.

3. Aluminum alloy valve

Aluminum alloy valve also belongs to the metal valve, its life and air tightness and steel valve mouth quite, but the price has gone up further, 200 yuan/sets and 60 yuan/month price some others raspberry, mainly because of aluminum Lighter than the steel, which is undoubtedly more favorable balance of the wheel.

The tips to buy a valve

When we buy the valve, in addition, to consider its material problems, but also pay attention to the size of the valve, the quality of the valve core and the valve cap contains a seal, and we do not be blinded by the colorful valve. In the purchase of today's popular tire pressure monitor, try to choose the embedded tire pressure sensor, to avoid the loss of exposed sensors.

In the car life if the presence of the valve is clearly not so wise, small it is about our car can be normal, safe on the road, different materials, the valve also has their own different characteristics The And we hope that through this article, allows you to have a new understanding of the valve and a more comprehensive understanding of the car lives in a lot of attention to the use of the valve to ensure that our own car safety.
